Set up milestones

Connect a milestone plan to a product so customers can track their progress in My Progress.

Milestone plans let customers track their progress for the activities they book.

Viking includes standard milestone plans that you can use immediately. In most cases, the only setup required is to connect the correct milestone plan to the relevant product.

View your milestone plans

Go to Settings → Milestones.

Here you can see the milestone plans available in your system.

Standard plans are available for activities such as:

  • Kitesurfing
  • SUP
  • Surfing
  • Windsurfing
  • Winging

You can also create your own plans, but this is optional.

For most schools, we recommend starting with the standard plans and only changing them when your own teaching structure requires something different.

Connect a milestone plan to a product

To use milestones for a product:

  1. Go to Settings → Products.
  2. Open the product you want to configure.
  3. Find Milestone plan.
  4. Select the plan you want to use.
  5. Save the product.

A product can have a maximum of one milestone plan.

Repeat this for each product where you want customers to track their progress.

For example, you can connect the Kitesurfing plan to your kitesurf lesson products and the Windsurfing plan to your windsurf lesson products.

What customers see

When a customer books a product with a milestone plan attached, My Progress appears automatically in their customer dashboard.

The customer can then see the progress associated with that activity.

If the customer books products connected to different milestone plans, multiple plans can appear in My Progress.

You do not need to enable My Progress separately.

Using the standard plans

The standard milestone plans already contain milestone content provided by Viking.

For the initial setup, you normally do not need to change:

  • milestone names;
  • XP requirements;
  • descriptions;
  • images;
  • translations;
  • information pages.

Start by linking the standard plan to the correct products and use the existing content.

If you want to adapt the levels, descriptions or other milestone content to your own teaching programme, see Customize a milestone plan.

For how XP and levels work for customers, see Understand experience levels.
