Change system texts and translations

Find and customize Viking's predefined system texts, including translations for different languages.

Viking uses predefined system texts, also called strings, throughout the booking process and other parts of the system.

You can change these texts to use wording that better suits your school, or adjust their translations in different languages.

For example, you might want to change the text Number of participants or the labels for selecting one, two or more participants.

Find and edit a system text

  1. Go to Settings → Translations.
  2. In the left column, select the language you want to use as a reference, such as English.
  3. In the right column, select the language you want to edit.
  4. Use Cmd + F (Mac) or Ctrl + F (Windows) to find the text you're looking for.
  5. Find the matching string and edit its text in the right column.

Changes are saved automatically. You do not need to click a separate Save button.

The two language selectors on this page determine which languages appear side by side.

They are separate from the language selector in the top-right corner of Viking, which changes the language of the entire interface.

Change an English system text

You can also customize Viking's original English wording.

  1. Select English in both columns.
  2. Find the string you want to change.
  3. Edit the text in the right column.

This is useful when your school uses different terminology from Viking's standard wording.

Change a translation

To edit a translation, select the original language on the left and the language you want to change on the right.

For example:

  • Left column: English
  • Right column: Dutch

Find the English string and update the corresponding Dutch text.

Repeat this for other languages when needed.

Check your changes

After editing a system text, check where it appears in Viking.

For example, if you changed a label used in a booking form, open that form in the relevant language and check the wording.

Make sure the text remains clear and fits the context in which customers see it.

What isn't translated here?

The Translations page is for predefined system texts. Other content is managed separately:

  • Product categories, products and variants: Translate these in their product settings.
  • Email templates: Edit these in Settings → E-mail templates, using the language selector in the top-right corner.
  • Booking forms: Configure their language in the booking form settings.

For the complete setup process, see Set up Viking in multiple languages.
