The next booking can start after the lesson

A customer finishing a lesson is not necessarily the end of the sale. It can be the perfect moment to offer the next logical step.

In short

  • A first lesson can be the start of a much longer customer journey.
  • Decide in advance what you want to offer after different types of courses.
  • Don't rely on every instructor remembering to make the offer.
  • Automate the follow-up so every relevant customer gets the same opportunity.
  • The next step could be another course, private coaching, rental, equipment or a review.

Decide the next step before the customer finishes

Think about what you would ideally like each customer to do next.

After a one-day lesson

  • offer a multi-lesson package
  • encourage the customer to continue learning

After a multi-day course

  • offer private coaching
  • use a good deal to steer private lessons towards quieter hours

After a course

  • promote rental or equipment
  • ask for a review

The right follow-up depends on your business. The important part is deciding what it should be instead of leaving it to chance.

Don't make every next sale depend on the instructor

At a small school, instructors can handle much of this naturally. They finish a lesson, talk to the customer and recommend what to book next.

As the team grows, that becomes less consistent. Some instructors actively recommend the next step, some occasionally do it and others focus entirely on teaching.

If upselling only happens when an instructor remembers it, you don't really have a consistent upsell process.

Standardise the follow-up with Viking

Viking lets you automate this part of the customer journey.

There are separate upsell emails for one-day and multiple-day courses. Email templates can also be configured per product category, so you can create different follow-ups for different parts of your business.

That could mean an introductory kitesurfing customer receives an offer for a lesson package, while another category has a completely different follow-up.

You decide the commercial logic once. Viking makes sure the follow-up happens consistently.

The instructor can still make the personal recommendation

Automation does not mean instructors should stop selling.

An instructor knows how a student progressed and can personally recommend another lesson, private coaching or the next level.

The difference is that your business no longer depends on that conversation happening every time. The instructor can make it personal. Viking makes the process consistent.

One customer can have several conversion moments

A lot of marketing effort goes into getting the first booking. But there can be several valuable moments after that first conversion.

For example:

first lesson → lesson package → private coaching → rental or equipment

Not every customer will follow that journey. But mapping the logical next step helps you get more value from customers who already know and trust your school.

Instead of only asking “How do we get more new customers?”, there is another useful question:

“What should this customer want to do next?”

Build the sales process around your team

As your school grows, more instructors become involved in the customer experience. The personal relationship should remain personal, but the commercial process does not need to depend on each individual instructor.

Set up the follow-up once, keep improving the offers and let Viking handle the repetitive part.

A finished lesson doesn't have to mean a finished customer journey.
